What Is the NZ Adviser Top Advisers Ranking?
The NZ Adviser Top Advisers ranking recognises mortgage advisers who have demonstrated significant residential lending performance during the qualifying period.
For the 2026 ranking, advisers needed to settle at least $50 million in verified residential lending between 1 March 2025 and 28 February 2026. The submitted figures were verified through the advisers’ aggregators before being included in the final ranking.
A total of 147 mortgage advisers qualified for the 2026 list.
Zhiyang Cheng Ranked #6 in New Zealand
A special congratulations goes to Zhiyang Cheng, who ranked sixth nationally in the 2026 Top Advisers list.
Being recognised among the top six mortgage advisers in New Zealand is an outstanding result and demonstrates the level of expertise and lending experience within the MHQ team.
Zhiyang’s result also places MHQ among the leading mortgage advice businesses represented in the ranking.
Why Mortgage Advice Matters
Getting a mortgage is one of the biggest financial decisions many Kiwi’s will make.
For first-home buyers, homeowners and property investors, the right lending strategy can have an impact well beyond simply securing a loan.
A mortgage adviser can help clients understand their borrowing options, compare lending solutions and structure their finance around their individual circumstances and property goals.
For property investors in particular, lending structure can become increasingly important as a portfolio grows.
That’s why we believe good mortgage advice should look beyond the immediate transaction and consider the bigger picture.
A Growing Role for Mortgage Advisers in New Zealand
The recognition comes at a time when mortgage advisers are playing an increasingly important role in the New Zealand property market.
According to the NZ Adviser report, mortgage advisers now account for around 60% of all new home loans in New Zealand.
The number of advisers qualifying for the Top Advisers list has also increased over recent years, from 63 advisers in 2024, to 94 in 2025, and 147 in 2026.
This reflects the growing role mortgage advisers play in helping Kiwis navigate an increasingly complex lending environment.
More Than an Award for MHQ
While the Top Advisers ranking is based on verified residential lending volumes, we see this recognition as a reflection of something broader.
Every mortgage represents a client, a property goal and an important financial decision.
Our advisers work with clients across different stages of the property journey, from buying a first home to refinancing an existing mortgage or structuring lending for an investment property.
The relationships we build with clients are at the heart of what we do.
Congratulations to Our MHQ Advisers
Congratulations to Zhiyang, Anna, Simon, Ray, Jason, Frankie and Hari on this well-deserved recognition.
Being named among New Zealand’s Top Mortgage Advisers is a significant achievement, and having all seven MHQ advisers included makes it even more special for our team.
We’re proud of the expertise and dedication our advisers bring to their clients every day.
Seven advisers. One team. And a shared commitment to helping Kiwis make smarter decisions with their mortgages.
