Zhiyang Cheng

I’m Zhiyang Cheng, Director and Senior Financial Adviser at MHQ. I’ve spent the past decade working with first-home buyers, investors and developers, helping them make smarter decisions about lending, property and long-term wealth. People often come to me with a mortgage question, but the conversation usually becomes something bigger: How do we create more options? How do we build wealth? And how do we design a better financial future? That’s where I believe great advice creates real value — not simply getting a loan approved, but understanding the bigger picture, designing the right structure and creating a strategy for what comes next. 

Today, my focus extends beyond advising clients. I’m building a team and platform at MHQ that can deliver strategic advice at scale. I’ve been fortunate to be recognised as a Top Adviser by NZ Adviser from 2021 through 2025, but the recognition isn’t what motivates me. It’s seeing clients build portfolios, create opportunities and fundamentally change their financial trajectory. 

My goal is simple: help more New Zealanders build wealth, create freedom and play the long game. Outside of work, you’ll usually find me playing table tennis, working on property projects, gaming, or scrolling through property listings.
